The Making of Fall of the House of Snow
The Making of Fall of the House of Snow is a documentary that will highlight a critically important historic moment in black and gay history as seen through the lens of a black queer women, who never imagined that while in the clubs of Richmond, VA in the 1980s and 90s that she was witnessing history as she watched the legendary performers of the House of Snow ‘slay their competition’. There is no documentation to date, that takes a microscopic look at black gay performance as a craft and discusses its survival despite some of the odds it faced during the HIV/AIDS epidemic.
The Making of Fall of the House of Snow documentary will follow Patricia interviewing the original House Mother, Earl ‘Christmas Snow’ Fleming, the current House Mother Victoria Snow and Snows who still perform and have maintained their popularity for the last 30+ years. Unfortunately, some of the earliest members of the House of Snow have succumbed to the HIV/AIDS and other illnesses over the years. The founder of the House of Snow, Earl Fleming is presently very ill, but is eager to share his story as is other current legendary House of Snow members. JUSTaSISTA Productions’ The Making of Fall of the House of Snow is necessary for the preservation of little known black gay performance history. The documentary focuses on the life and performance history of the House of Snow as artists impacted by life. In addition, the future documentary is one component of the three-part Fall of the House of Snow Project that includes the play, documentary and future screenplay.
The Making of Fall of the House of Snow documentary will open the door to the illustrious House of Snow and will highlight discussions about the formation of the House, the history and the impact of the HIV/AIDS epidemic on their family. The Making of Fall of the House of Snow will also share Patricia’s struggles and continued inspiration for pushing the play, Fall of the House of Snow to production after almost 10 years of work. The play is described as Paris is Burning meets Angels in America.
